Check thermostat

Verification without removing the thermostat

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before you remove and check the operation of the thermostat, make sure that the problems with the cooling of the engine did not occur due to insufficient coolant or weak belt tension. Ensure serviceability indicator located in the instrument cluster.
  2. If the engine is long warming up to operating temperature (according to the indicator), the thermostat may be stuck in the open position. In this case, the thermostat should be replaced.
  3. On the other hand, a long warm-up can be a result of the thermostat. This could be done deliberately or unintentionally (forgot to set after repair). Do not use the vehicle without a thermostat. The engine management system will take longer to warm-up mode to maintain the unit in which the engine uses more fuel and exhaust gases contain large amounts of harmful impurities.
  4. If the engine overheats, touch the upper radiator hose. If it is not hot, and the motor is overheated, the thermostat may be jammed in the closed position. Liquid misses the radiator and circulates in a small circle. In this case, replace the thermostat.
  5. If the upper radiator hose hot, it means that the thermostat is open and fluid normally circulates through the system - read the recommendations in Section Diagnostics of malfunctions.

2 - The poppet valve

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the thermostat (see. Section Removal and installation of the thermostat).
  2. If the thermostat at room temperature is in the open position - it is faulty and should be replaced.
  3. For a rough check of working capacity of the thermostat hang it on a piece of twine in the container with water. The thermostat must not touch the walls of the container. Begin heating the container.

From the moment of reaching the temperature value at 8 ? C below the beginning of the valve opening rate of heating should not exceed 1-2 ? C / min.

  1. As the heating water thermostat to be opened (that occurs immediately prior to boiling water). Since the boiling point of water is 100 ? C, the thermostat may not open completely (see. Specifications). Remove the thermostat and allow to cool, - the valve should close completely.
  2. If the thermostat does not open when heated or close during cooling, replace it.
  3. When the thermostat setting, note the following points:
  1. Make sure that the mating surfaces have been thoroughly cleaned, do not forget to prepare and install a new O-ring;
  2. Ensure the correct orientation of the thermostat in the housing;
  3. Make sure that the cap bolts are tightened to the required torque (see. Specifications);
  4. Refilling the Cooling System (see chap. Current leaving and service) started only in making sure all hoses are connected correctly;
  5. After installation, start the engine warm up to normal operating temperature and check for signs of leakage.
