Charging System
If the warning light does not light charging when the ignition, check the wiring to the generator and integrity of a control lamp. If the lamp still does not burn, check up an electric chain from the generator to the lamp. If all electrical connections are correct, then the generator is defective and should be replaced or repaired. If the warning lamp lights up when charging the engine, stop the engine and check the condition and the tension drive a generator belt, and also connection of wires to the generator. Checking the voltage regulator can be made as follows.
PERFORMANCE ORDER | 1. Connect a voltmeter to poles of the battery and start the engine. | 2. Increase the engine speed to stabilize the voltmeter which should show from 12 to 13 volts, but no more than 14 volts. | 3. Turn on the maximum number of electrical consumers (lights, rear window heater, the heater fan). The voltage generated by the generator voltage regulator must be in the range of 13 to 14 volts. If the voltage does not correspond to the desired value, due to a malfunction STI may be worn brushes of the generator, weak springs of brushes, a faulty regulator of pressure, the faulty diode, winding breakage of the stator or defective contact rings of a rotor. |
