The coolant temperature sensor is installed in the coolant pipe on the cylinder head. The sensor is a thermistor, whose resistance varies depending on the coolant temperature. The sensor resistance decreases with increasing temperature of the liquid. The engine control unit receives signals from the sensor and on the basis of this information controls the duration of the applied control pulses to the injectors and ignition timing. With increasing fluid temperature control unit reduces the amount of fuel injection and ignition timing.
