Removing and installing fuel tank

| - Details of the installation of the fuel tank on all models except the ML 55 AMG shown in the illustrations, which include all the links in the text.
- Drain the fuel tank (see. Section Emptying the fuel tank).
- Remove the filler cap (2) and disconnect it from the safety cord (4).
- At a corresponding complete set remove the seat left optional third row.
- Remove the cover (1) with the side panel trim luggage.
- Disconnect the fuel line from the expansion tank (only petrol models) and filler.
- Release the bayonet lock (3) and remove the filler neck of the funnel guide, check the condition of the sealing ring, in case of need make replacement.
- Slide the neck into the luggage compartment.
- On US models, remove the pressure sensor in the fuel tank (B4 / 3).
- Otboltite ground bus (H36 / 4) filler cap (only petrol models).
- Cut the rope fixing clamps fixing bandages fuel lines to the fuel filler neck, remove the mounting clamps.
- Drive the vehicle on a lift.
- Remove the lower sealing element (5) and remove the filler neck through the luggage compartment, - try not to damage fuel lines.
- Remove the left rear wheel.
- Remove the spare wheel complete with holder.
- Cut a large safety belt locking filler cap to the bracket on the longitudinal beams of the frame, remove the bracket.
- Disconnect connectors regeneration (77/2) of the line and the vent line (77/4) carbon adsorber (77).
- Disconnect the breather hose to the back of the failed carbon adsorber (at the rear differential assembly).
- Remove thermofilter rear section of the exhaust system, - try not to damage the anthers of hinges of power shafts.
- Disconnect the rear differential driveshaft (see chap. The transmission line).
- Release the latches on the bottom of the frame of the car and the parking brake cables.
- Otboltite from the bottom of the car rear differential control tape.
- Remove the left deflector Stone Chip Protection.
- Remove the lower mounting tape (80/2) securing the fuel tank and loosen the upper stretch tapes - tapes marked with colored markers and have established strictly on the former places.
- Remove the longitudinal bar processing by a mounting tape (80/18).
- At a corresponding complete set remove draft regulation block headlights.
- Give nuts of the lower strut to the rear suspension control arm (see chap. Suspension and steering), - the nuts must be replaced without fail.
- Otboltite of the rear axle to the bottom of the car. Support the bracket and lower it as low as possible.
- Propping jack priopustite fuel tank.
- Disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness, and the feed line (90/12) and return (90/11) of fuel, - try not to bend the pipe fuel pipe.
- Remove the fuel tank assembly (80).
- Installation is in the reverse order.

- Drain the fuel tank (see. Section Emptying the fuel tank).
- Remove the filler cap (2) and disconnect it from the safety cord (4).
- Remove the cover (1) with the side panel trim luggage.
- Release the bayonet lock (3) and remove the filler neck (15) of the guide socket, check the condition of the sealing ring, in case of need make replacement.
- Push cap (15) inside the luggage compartment.
- On US models, remove the pressure sensor in the fuel tank (B4 / 3).
- Otboltite ground bus (H36 / 4) filler neck (15).
- Remove the rear section of the exhaust system (6).
- Remove the screws (12) and remove thermofilter (11)
- Remove the additional fuel tank.
- Disconnect lines (16, 17, 18 and 19) of the carbon adsorber (14).
- Release the latches on the bottom of the frame of the car and the parking brake cables.
- Disconnect the rear differential driveshaft (see chap. The transmission line).
- Remove the left rear panel trim frame.
- Remove the mounting tape (20) securing the fuel tank - marked with colored tape marks, and shall be established strictly on the former places.
- Remove the processing by a longitudinal bar mounting tapes (21).
- Prop jack otboltite from the frame and lower floor as low as possible the assembly of the rear axle.
- Release the line from holders on the walls of the tank.
- Disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness, and the feed line (24) and return (25) Fuel and gasoline pipe (26) of the stationary heater - try not to bend the pipe fuel pipe.
- Disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness (23).
- Lower the fuel tank assembly (13) and pull it out from under the car - sure to fill opening at the toe of the frame or body of the car.

- Empty the fuel tank (see. Section Emptying the fuel tank).
- Remove the rear section of the muffler (1).
- Remove thermofilter (7).
- Disconnect the auxiliary fuel tank (17) gasoline pipe lines (14 and 15).
- Loosen the bolts (10) and remove the mounting tape (9) securing the additional tank (17).
- Remove the bolts (12), release the bolts (13) and fold down the support bracket (11).
- Disconnect from the top of the tank vent line (18) and move it away.
- Remove assemblage of additional fuel tank (17).
- Installation is in the reverse order - if necessary, replace the clamps (16) securing the fuel hoses (14 and 15), try not to damage the vent line (18).
