Additional fuel injection

In some versions of the NOx catalytic converters additional fuel injection may result in burnt out NOx. This leads to the fact that the main fuel injection is continued for 200 ? after TDC during the power stroke and the exhaust stroke. Additional fuel injection supplies a certain amount of fuel in the exhaust gases.

In contrast to control main injection and the injected fuel is not ignited, and in the form of steam collects the residual heat from the exhaust gases. During the exhaust stroke, the mixture of exhaust gases and fuel through the exhaust valves gets into the exhaust system. Part of the fuel through the exhaust gas recirculation EGR is returned into the cylinders for afterburning and leads to the same effect as controlling the fuel injection. NOx catalytic converters used in exhaust gas fuel as the actuator for reducing the NOx content in the exhaust gases.

Since the additional fuel injection leads to the dissolution of the engine oil, a fuel injection needs to be approved by the engine manufacturer.
