Service lubrication systems
Details of installation of the sump 111 series
| - Details of the installation of the oil pan to the engine 111 series are shown in the illustration, which includes all the links in the text.
- Drain the engine oil (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).
- Remove the cooling fan assembly with the viscous coupling (26).
- Otboltite from the engine compartment bulkhead expansion tank (8) of the cooling system.
- Remove the screws (9) securing the cushion of the front support of the power unit to the vehicle frame (see. Section Removal and installation of support of the power train).
- Post on the winch motor.
- Disconnect the oil level sensor wiring (S43).
- Turn out fixing bolts and remove the oil pan (56).
- Carefully smooth out interfaced surfaces and replace the new pan gasket (56a).
- Installation is in the reverse order.

- Remove the pan (see. Above).
- Remove the sprocket (25) the oil pump assembly with a chain draped over it.
- Remove the mounting bolts (28 / 28a) and remove the pump assembly (24 / 24a).
- Carefully smooth out interfaced surfaces of the pump and the engine block.
- Fill with fresh oil pump assembly.
- Installation is in the reverse order. When installing the pump, the first version of note that the two front bolts (28) fitted with guide bushings (27). In the second version of the pump do not forget to replace the O-ring (29).

- Remove the liquid heat exchanger (9).
- Remove the sump (10) (See above.).
- Remove the oil pump (see. Above).
- With the help of a special device dismember the chain drive of the pump and remove it from the engine.
- Remove the oil pump drive sprocket (25).
- Installation is in the reverse order - for joint chains, use a special device.

- Remove the timing cover (see. Section Removal and installation of covers of timing).
- Using forceps (1) remove the non-return valve (8) from its receiving hole in the crankcase.
- Installation is in the reverse order.

- Remove the front cover of the power unit.
- Remove the trim panel of the power unit / air cleaner.
- Remove the fan assembly (1) and the fan cover (2), - on the ML 55 AMG and ML 500, remove the electric fan assembly to the housing.
- Remove the lid (4) of the casing (5) of the oil filter.
- Remove the screws (9) fixing liquid heat exchanger (3) to the casing (5) of the oil filter.
- Remove the cover (5).
- Installation is in the reverse order.
- Finally, check motor oil level, if necessary, make appropriate adjustment (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).

- Follow the procedures described in paragraphs 1 to 5 points for removing and installing oil filter housing, adjusted for changes in the notation in the illustration.
- Drain the radiator coolant (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).
- Disconnect from liquid heat exchanger (6) of the cooling line path (4 and 5).
- With appropriate configuration (the ML 55 AMG and ML 500) Remove the air pump assembly (see. Section Removal and installation of covers of timing).
- Turn out fixing bolts and remove the heat exchanger assembly (6) from the filter housing.
- Installation is in the reverse order.
- Finally, make sure there are no signs of coolant leaks.

- Remove the banding (7).
- Pulling up, remove the tube (1) from the engine.
- Installation is in the reverse order.

- Remove the bolts (8) and remove the fan shroud assembly (5).

- Drain the engine oil (see chap. Power supply system and exhaust).
- Give nuts (7) fastening the front suspension support of the power unit.
- Remove the resonator chamber (2) with a connecting sleeve (3).
- Post on the winch motor.
- Turn out fixing bolts and remove the bottom section of the oil pan (6).
- Carefully smooth out interfaced surfaces.
- Installation is in the reverse order.
